Saranathan College of Engineering was founded by “Vidya Seva Ratnam”, “Guru Seva Mani” Auditor Sri. K. Santhanam in the year 1998. It was so named in respectful memory of his Guru Principal Saranathan, the greatest ever Principal of National College. It is a self financing college approved by AICTE and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai.

The college was temporarily (approx. 2 years) located in the Seshasayee Institute of Technology, thanks to the gracious permission from the Honorary Secretary and Correspondent of that Institution, Er. G. Sundaram and shifted to its current sprawling 40 acre campus on the Chennai – Madurai Expressway at Panjappur on 3rd January 2000 and was formally inaugurated on 19th October 2000, by “Peraasiriyar K Anbazhagan, the then Minister of Education, Government of Tamil Nadu.

The college has a current annual intake of 600 students for the 6 branches offered at the undergraduate level and 174 students for the 5 courses offered at the post-graduate level.With a built up area of 200000 sq ft, 8 seminar halls and a state of the art library with more than 40000 books and 225 periodicals and journals (both national and international), the college offers the ideal environment for the students to absorb and assimilate the top class technical education and professional training offered.The college has a well equipped Computer Centre and has installed internet with 15 Mbps connectivity. The entire college is networked with unique log-in IDs and passwords for each student. The Computer Centre takes great pride in the fact that they have installed and run a dedicated “cloud centre”.The Faculty with an outstanding academic background and sound conceptual knowledge of contemporary engineering studies and practices ably complete the process of converting the budding students into employable technocrats. Thus the faculty is research oriented is evident from the fact that quite a few of them already hold Ph.D degrees and many more are pursuing their Ph.D studies. Thus the University recognizes such talent is obvious when the university bestows the college is a “nodal centre” of the university for their on-going Quality Improvement Circle (QIC). In addition, a few of our faculty members are also a part of the Board of Studies and contribute to the framing of syllabi for the various courses that they have specialized in. They also serve the role of reviewers in reputed journals by show-casing their academic acceptability in the peer community of eminent educationists. 

One method of an objective measurement of the quality of education imparted at the college would be the number of rank holders at the examinations held at the University level. We had 13 students within the top 50 rank holders at the Final University examination held in 2009, 20 in the year 2010 and leaped to 57 for the 2011 examinations. This academic excellence reached new heights with 88 students placed within the top 50 ranks in the year 2012 ( including three (3) 1st rankers and two (2) second rankers) and 67 students in the year 2013 (including one (1) 1st rankers, two (2) 2nd rankers and two(2) 3rd rankers) . To sustain this consistent the excellent academic performance we honour the rank holders by awarding them Gold Medals on the Graduation Day. Class Toppers and Subject Toppers are also honoured with cash awards and appreciation certificates.

             In 1952, Dr. Alagappa Chettiar’s dream came true. Alagappa Chettiar College of Engg & Tech., started functioning from 21st July 1952 with three faculties-Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The Foundation tablet for the main building of the college was laid by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the then President of India on 19th February 1953. Before Dr.Chettiar could bring all his dreams into reality, he passed away. Subsequently, w.e.f. 1-7-1966 (Vide G.O.Ms. Education No.1282 dated 26-07-1971), the Institution was handed over to Govt. of Tamil Nadu. In 1969 a new faculty of Electronics and Communication Engineering was started.

         Further Part-time Courses in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical and Electronics Engineering were introduced in 1971. To keep pace with the Technical advancements and to meet the requirements of industries, two new courses were started; M.E in Microwave and Optical Engineering in 1983 and Master of Computer Application (M.C.A.) in 1988.           Government College of Engineering, Salem-11, was started during the Third Five year plan in the year 1966 and is located on a 162 hectares site surrounded by hills under the initiation of a Legend Padmashree Muthaiyan. This was then the Third Engineering Institution in Tamil Nadu. The first batch of students was selected for the academic year 1966-1967 for course in Civil. Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. In the year 1973-74, the Metallurgical engineering branch was started. Electronics and Communication branch was introduced in the year 1985-86. Computer Science Engineering course was introduced in the year 2001.

          M.E.,(Structural Engineering), M.E., Mechanical(Thermal Engineering), M.E., Electrical and Electronics(Power Electronics & Drives) and M.E., Metallurgy (welding Technology) are offered as self supporting course.           The college is a Regional Center for Anna University for Ph.D., and M.S., programs. The college is the Zonal Office for the conduct of Anna University Examination in the 73 colleges belonging to this Zonal. Our Institution is one of the eleven technical Institution in Tamil Nadu selected for World Bank Financial Assistance under Technical Education Quality Improvement Program(TEQIP).The Institution has recevied an approval for a sum of Rs.10,967cores as life time allocation for the project implementation spread over a period of four years from 2003 to 2007.Based on the performance on the Phase I a grant of Rs. 4 Crores has been given to build the quality of the Technical Education.

About Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering:

Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering(SVCE), a unit of Sri Venkateswara Educational and Health Trust(SVEHT), was inaugurated by the then Governor of Tamil Nadu, Hon'ble Shri S L Khurana. The inaugural function of the college complex at Nazarathpet took place on 8th April 1985. Formal academic classes were inaugurated by Mr C. Subramanian on 19th August 1985.

The GRIHAPRAVESAM function of the new Campus was performed on 25.07.1991. The Campus houses a Vinayaka temple "SRI VIJAYA GANAPATHI ALAYAM". The new Campus was inaugurated on 5.12.1992 by the then President of India, His Excellency Shri R Venkataraman.

A major objective of this Institution is to plan and implement a programme of education in Engineering and Allied Sciences in order to promote research, to disseminate knowledge and to foster cooperation and exchange of ideas between the academic community and industrial organizations and to develop entrepreneurship skills among students. It strives to achieve academic excellence along with the harmonious development of personality of students.

The Governing Council, which is the Apex Body for the governance of the college, is chaired by well-known industrialist and philanthropist Dr. A.C.Muthiah, Chairman, SPIC Ltd. Under his guidance, the college has progressed phenomenally. In a span of the two decades, there has been an all round development in infrastructure and research and academic activities.

Twenty two batches of students have passed out of the College. Many of them have completed their Masters Degree. Coimbatore Institute of Technology was founded in the year 1956 by V. Rangaswamy Naidu Educational Trust (VRET) with the noble aim of disseminating knowledge in the fields of science, engineering and technology to the student community.

The philanthropic founders envisioned a unique professional learning order with special emphasis on industrial training. CIT was affiliated to Madras University from 1956 to 1980. In the year 1980, the Institute got affiliated to Bharathiar University and subsequently to Anna University in 2001.
